Nathan Cann received his MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU-Tisch. Upon graduation he was named the department’s Outstanding Graduate Playwright. While in school he was selected for Theater Masters where his play was produced in Aspen and New York City. He's been a semi finalist or finalist for the National Playwrights Conference at the O'Neill five times. His play, The Last Buckley, received a workshop at The Kennedy Center as part of the MFA Playwrights Workshop and was named a finalist for the 2014 Goldberg Prize. He was awarded the inaugural Richie Jackson Artist Fellowship.

He recently formed a new theater company in Harlem, The National Theater of Uptown. Their first production was in February of 2018 where they took over the parlor floor of an abandoned brownstone in Hamilton Heights for a successful run of his newest play.
