C. Meaker

Playwright

Program:
MFA Playwrights Workshop

C. "Meaks" Meaker (they/them) is a playwright, screenwriter, and essayist whose work often explores queerness, feminism, and the end of the world. Growing up in Tennessee, they were naturally obsessed with the horrific and grotesque, which often finds its way into the strange worlds they create whether it’s an unexpected banjo riff as harbinger of death, a screeching banshee that sounds like church bells, or collapsing belief systems ripping through a body.

They’ve developed plays with National New Play Network, Seattle Repertory, Annex Theater, About Face, and Kitchen Dog, among others. They’re an alumna of Seattle Rep’s Writers Group, Walter E. Dakin Fellow of Sewanee Writers’ Conference, and a former Jerome Fellow at the Playwrights’ Center. Works include: Buckshot (Dramatic Publishing), Chaos Theory – a play seeking order (Original Works), The Lost Girls (Gregory Award Outstand New Play Nominee), That’swhatshesaid (Stranger Genius Award Nominee), Tiny Thin Woman Inside, and You Must Wear a Hat, among others. MFA: University of Iowa Playwrights’ Workshop.

They're currently based in New York City. In their spare time, they obsessively research monster and zombie theory, DM Dungeons and Dragons, and drink a lot of tea while reading cozy mysteries.
