Member Theaters

NNPN Member Theaters produce new plays in intimate storefront theaters and state of the art performance centers. Their budgets range from less than $50,000 a year to more than $10 million. But regardless of resources, what unites these organizations is their belief in the power of playwrights creating stories of and for our time. They also know that we can accomplish more - as humans and organizations - working together than we ever could apart.

There are two tiers of organizational membership in NNPN: Core and Associate.

Membership & Affiliation

  • NNPN is an alliance of theaters, and Member Theaters must meet eligibility requirements and maintain standards as set forth in the application process. NNPN has two categories of Membership for eligible professional, not for profit theaters with a dedication to the development, production and extending the life of new plays.

Theaters wishing to serve the field by collaborating on the decision-making process that establishes the governance, programs, and membership structures of the Network go through an intensive, year-long application process and must be approved by the existing Core Membership before accessing the full range of NNPN programs, convenings, and awards.

  • As a part of its commitment to create the diverse, equitable, and inclusive new play ecology the Network envisions currently the Network is accepting applications for Core Membership from organizations that self-identify as Theaters of Color, defined by NNPN those that make work by, for, with, and about Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color.

NNPN has re-opened applications for Associate Membership as of March 10th, 2023. NNPN Associate Member Theater applicants must meet the stated eligibility requirements. Theaters considering Associate Membership should contact Monica Montoya, NNPN Membership & Communications Manager (monica@nnpn.org), to begin the application process and request an application.

*Please note: The NNPN Membership Committee has paused reviewing Associate Member Theater Applications until April 2024.

  • NNPN Affiliated Artists are alumni of NNPN programs: they or their work have been supported by the Network through a Member Theater or partner organization. You can find out more about NNPN Affiliated Artists here.

The best way for an individual artist to get to know NNPN is by seeing which of our Member Theaters you may already have (or desire to have!) a relationship with and reach out to them about submitting your work to an NNPN Program.

And, of course, share your work or interest in new works by subscribing to NNPN’s New Play Exchange. You can find out more about how to access the world’s largest database of new works and new work makers and lovers here.

For more information regarding membership & affiliation, please contact NNPN’s Membership and Communications Manager Monica Montoya at monica@nnpn.org.
